Heat transfer equipment represents a special chapter in the field of plants working under pressure.
The HEAT EXCHANGERS which are manufactured in UTON workshops are used in a various range of sizes and operating pressures, temperatures and fluids, especially in the chemical, petrochemical and oil processing industries. They are both used as independent units and as parts of other apparatus and plants, most of the processes being accompanied by heat release or absorbtion.

Types of heat exchangers that are currently manufactured:
   • Shell and tube heat exchangers, evaporators and condensers:
      - with immovable tube sheets
      - with expansion joint on the shell
      - floating head heat exchangers
      - U-type heat exchangers
      - with vapour chamber
   • Tubular heat exchangers, without shell:
      - coaxial (double pipe)
      - coil type

High thermal conductivity materials are preferred for the heat transfer surfaces. However, the selection of materials is done according to the thermal agents aggressiveness and to the requirements regarding the product’s purity. The main materials used for the manufacturing of tube bundles are: carbon steel, heat resistant steel, stainless steels (Cr-Ni) and brass. The tube sheets are made of carbon steel; these can be stainless steel or brass cladded .
The joint between tubes and tube sheets is made by expanding and/or welding.

AIR COOLED HEAT EXCHANGERS are used in the oil and gas industries. Typical components include the tube bundles, arranged in bays and serviced by two or more fans, the structure, plenum and other attendant equipment.
The fabrication of pressure components comply with the pressure design code and the additional requirements of API 661.
The finned tube construction is chosen to meet the intended service conditions. Variable-speed or variable-pitch fans may be used for process control. Where airflow must be contained or control, louvers are normally used.
